The club was formed in 1978 as the first marathon running club in Great Britain. Altough initially focussed on marathons, the club caters for all distances of on and off road running.
Stone has around 100 members with a full range of ages from 16 to 'experienced'! There is a full range of abilities from gentle joggers through to world class runners. The system of' 'mustering' ensures that all abilities are encompassed.
A system of training whereby the lead runners will reach a certain point and then 'muster' back to the back marker.
We meet for training at the Tennis club Visitors to try us out or 'just visiting' are always welcome. We suggest you arrive 10 minutes before for changing and announcements. We sometimes do away runs in the summer months so it it may be worth checking beforehand.
The Tennis Club has newly refurbished showers and changing rooms. Please do not leave valuables unattended. We share the facilities with the tennis club and other organisations including Stone Wheelers Cycling Club, spinning club, bridge club and squash club. There is ample parking. A bar is provided after Wed runs and tea and coffee on Sundays
Members and associate members must wear club kit on all training runs and members at all races. The club kit comprises red tops with black shorts. On winter training runs white tops shall be worn for safety.
Members are required to marshall or other such duties at at least one of the club organised races each year.
Our club newsletter 'Sapientia' is sent to all members.
We nominate a series of races of varying length during each year and winners are awarded in variuos categories.
