Flying Fox Marathon (NSRRA)

Back for 2017 – the Flying Fox Marathon!

Original Flying Fox MarathonStone Master Marathoners was founded in 1977 as a running club specifically for veteran marathon runners. The Flying Fox was chosen as the club emblem, and the Latin motto (Sapientia Atque Levitas) means wisdom and lightness of heart, or cunning and low body weight, whichever you prefer.

The First Flying Fox Marathon was held in October 1979 at Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent and hosted the British Veterans Athletics Federation Marathon Championship. In its second year, the course was moved to Sandbach, Cheshire before coming to Stone where it continued until the last running of the marathon in 1994.

Stone Master Marathoner is proud to announce Sunday 28th May 2017 as the date for the next Flying Fox Marathon. Not to be confused with its shorter brother, the Flying Fox 10, we welcome all runners to tackle this beautiful course with more details available at the Flying Fox Marathon website here (click).
