Set in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands with views over the Cheshire plain.
The race is a 9.3-mile (15km) loop on rural roads that provides spectacular views over the Cheshire Plain and Tittesworth Reservoir, though many runners are too breathless to enjoy them.
Gun Hill is the race’s signature feature. The climb begins almost immediately after the first kilometre. It is a long, gruelling ascent of approximately 5km to the summit.
Once at the top, there is a gradual and occasionally steep descent, but the course remains undulating with several “stingers” later in the race around the 10km-11km mark.
Expect roughly 400m (over 1,300ft) of total ascent.
The final 2km provide much-needed relief, offering a fast, straight downhill blast back toward the Village Hall finish line.
